 In some countries your mileage will be capped. This will be shown in the third step (Prices and Extras) of your booking journey and on your rental agreement.

If you have chosen a car from our range of Prestige vehicles, there is a mileage limit. This is set by the (country) hire station. We’ll let you know the limit before you book.

 Of course, you can take your hire car to a festival. However, as you are responsible for the vehicle during the rental period you will be liable if, for example, the car gets stuck in a field. You would need to arrange and pay for towing to get back on the road.

We offer van hire in a selected stations in a number of countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Portugal and Switzerland. To find out if you can hire a van for your journey, simply tell us where and your options will appear when you start your journey online.

 

The excess is the amount you pay if something goes wrong during your journey. For example, if you have an accident or your personal belongings are stolen from your hire vehicle. The amount you pay depends on the vehicle you hire, which country you hire it in and whether you choose to reduce the excess by upgrading your level of cover.

When you hire a vehicle with us, you’ll automatically receive third party, vehicle damage (Collision Damage Waiver) and vehicle theft cover to safeguard you on your journey. If you book on the US website you may find that vehicle damage and vehicle theft cover are not included, as some American credit cards provide insurance for car hire.

Third party cover is the basic level you need to hire a vehicle – that’s why we always include it. Should you damage another vehicle or passengers and their property, you won’t have to pay for repairs or injuries.

But, if you have an accident you will still need to pay a fixed excess fee – unless you upgrade your cover. Find out how much you pay depending on what you hire and where you hire it. We also offer Personal Accident Insurance in case you’re injured in an accident.

We understand it can be frustrating when you’re surprised with extra costs. That’s why we always try to be upfront about what you pay.

Your booking typically includes Collision Damage Waiver (vehicle damage cover), vehicle theft cover, tax, breakdown assistance, location charges and, depending on the location car and rate, unlimited mileage. But unless you let us know, it does not include young driver charges, additional driver charges, fuel, upgraded cover, or optional extras such as additional equipment or out-of-hours services.

Please bear in mind your booking fee will never include any parking or traffic violations.

We understand plans sometimes change and you might need to update your booking.

Do bear in mind if you extend your booking or update it with higher value services or a superior car group, you will need to pay the extra cost.

If you downgrade your booking, we unfortunately can’t refund the difference so please choose carefully.

The Vehicle Registration Fee, which is included in your quote before you book your vehicle, helps cover the cost of your hire vehicle’s registration.

We charge a Premium Location Fee to cover the extra costs incurred by Avis Budget UK to be located at premium locations such as airports, train stations and city centres.

It is a 16 per cent premium that is charged at prime locations, such as those locations where we must pay the property/land owner (an Airport or Shopping Centre owner) a percentage of the earnings, which can cover the rental and ancillaries, in addition to any standard market rent for the property.

It is not a tax and does not generate significant net income for us.

The Premium Location Fee is included in the price quoted to customers and is shown as a separate item on the customer’s rental agreement.
